Hiring for freshers is rising rapidly across India, according to a report by a job and internship platform connecting students with employers, GetWork. The study revealed that cities like Mumbai and Delhi are offering top salaries while overall entry-level pay continues to improve.
The data showed that Mumbai with Rs 4.29 LPA leads the list, followed by Delhi at Rs 4.05 LPA. Other metropolitan cities trail with varying average salaries.
Mumbai offered the highest fresher salary at Rs 4.29 LPA, driven by its strong corporate presence and financial sector concentration.
The National Capital Region secured second spot with an average fresher salary of Rs 4.05 LPA in FY25.
Pune offered Rs 3.34 LPA while Bangalore, despite being a tech hub, recorded a lower Rs 2.95 LPA average for freshers.
Among major metros, Chennai reported the lowest fresher salary at Rs 2.65 LPA in FY25 job listings on GetWork.
Overall, fresher salaries rose by 3.4% in FY25 to Rs 3.22 LPA from Rs 3.12 LPA in FY24.
According to the study, top fresher salary reached Rs 10 LPA, while the lowest stood at Rs 2.1 LPA, showing a broad pay range.
“The variation in average fresher salaries across metro cities shows strong demand from regional areas, cost-of-living differences, and industry-specific concentration. Metros with corporate HQs and financial institutions offer higher entry-level pay than startup-heavy tech hubs," said GetWork CEO & Founder, Rahul Veerwal.
