At Chhatrasal Stadium, parents protested, urging the Delhi government to release the 2025 Fee Regulation Ordinance draft. They say it affects lakhs of families and must involve wider public consultation.
“We believe the bill will directly impact lakhs of families,” said Hitesh Kaushik of United Parents Voice, highlighting the need for stakeholder consultation.
On June 10, Delhi’s Cabinet, presided over by CM Rekha Gupta, approved the ordinance. It empowers authorities to levy fines up to ₹10 lakh on private schools that flout the new fee norms.
After Cabinet sanction, the ordinance will be sent to the President via Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena for approval, following constitutional procedures.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Delhi chief Saurabh Bharadwaj has backed the protest, calling the ordinance a “loot licence” that benefits private schools. He also criticised the government for trying to pass it quietly during the peak of summer.
The Aam Aadmi Party says the ordinance ignores democratic process and gives too much power to school committees. They warn it sidelines parents and could benefit what they call the "education mafia."
Parents have vowed to intensify protests across Delhi until the draft of the ordinance is made public. Earlier, they held a press conference and demonstration at Jantar Mantar demanding transparency.
