Travelling in Delhi Metro will become costlier from 25 August, as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has confirmed a fare hike. This is the first increase in fares since 2017, ending an eight-year gap in revisions.
The new revision will add between ₹1 and ₹4 across metro lines. On the Airport Express line, ticket prices will rise by up to ₹5.
For journeys between 0–2 km, the minimum fare will now be ₹11, compared to the earlier ₹10. DMRC stated that this adjustment is part of a nominal revision.
The updated fares are ₹21 for 2–5 km, ₹32 for 5–12 km, and ₹43 for 12–21 km. Each slab has been raised marginally, ensuring that the price change is evenly distributed across short and mid-distance commutes.
Passengers travelling 21–32 km will now pay a maximum of ₹54, while those covering more than 32 km will be charged ₹64, compared to the earlier maximum of ₹60.
The DMRC has also introduced revised fare slabs for Sundays and national holidays. Passengers will pay ₹11 for 0–2 km, ₹11 for 2–5 km, ₹21 for 5–12 km, ₹32 for 12–21 km, ₹43 for 21–32 km, and ₹54 for trips beyond 32 km.
Many passengers also expressed disappointment online, questioning the hike without added facilities. Some noted that daily expenses will rise further, while others accused DMRC of adjusting fares faster than salary growth.
Before this announcement, the minimum fare stood at ₹10 and the maximum at ₹60 since 2017. That increase was based on recommendations from the fourth Fare Fixation Committee (FFC), similar to this year’s adjustment.
