Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah is set to unveil Bharat Taxi on Thursday, rolling out India’s first cooperative-driven ride-hailing platform following a two-month pilot phase in the mobility space.

Bharat Taxi positions itself as a nationwide cooperative, driver-owned platform, aiming to take on ride-hailing leaders like Uber, Ola and Rapido that currently hold a dominant share of the market.

Bharat Taxi Cooperative

Bharat Taxi, registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002, was founded on 6 June 2025 and backed by eight top cooperative organisations for nationwide expansion.

Bharat Taxi Pilot Programme

Bharat Taxi started pilot operations on 2 December in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat, with the official app launch in selected cities, including Delhi, on 1 January after government testing.

Platform Scale Today

Since December 2025, over 3 lakh drivers and 1 lakh users have joined Bharat Taxi, completing more than 10,000 rides across Delhi-NCR and Gujarat.

Sarathi Earnings Details

Bharat Taxi drivers, also known as Sarathis, have earned a total of ₹10 crore so far, while enjoying the freedom to work on other platforms without exclusivity restrictions.

Sarathi Welfare Focus

Bharat Taxi focuses on Sarathis’ social security, offering health and accident insurance, retirement savings, emergency support, verified ride data and seven service centres operating in Delhi.

Launch Day Events

During the launch, Amit Shah will distribute certificates to six top Sarathis, who will also receive ₹5 lakh accident cover and ₹5 lakh family health insurance, alongside nine MoUs and 1,200 drivers attending nationwide.
