The price of a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder for general consumers has now gone up by Rs 50, from Rs 803 to Rs 853 to compensate OMCs which have been selling LPG cylinders at a loss.
Now Ujjwala beneficiaries will pay Rs 553 for a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder up from Rs 503. The Rs 50 increase is due to global price pressures and aims to maintain supply and demand balance.
The recent price hike is due to the rise in global gas prices, which have gone up from $415 to $712 per metric tonne.
To manage rising costs, the government has increased excise duties on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per litre. However, retail prices will remain unchanged to shield consumers from the impact.
Commercial LPG prices saw a reduction of Rs 41 per cylinder in March 2025. While this brings some relief to commercial consumers, domestic LPG users continue to face higher costs due to the ongoing rise in global energy prices.
LPG prices are affected by changes in crude oil prices. As oil prices rise, LPG production costs increase, leading to higher domestic prices.
The price hike will affect household budgets, especially for those who rely on LPG for cooking.
