Default Theme Option

As per WABetaInfo, the upcoming feature will allow users to choose a default chat theme on WhatsApp Web. It will change message bubble colours and align them with wallpapers, creating a more consistent and visually refined chat experience.

Limited Features Now

Currently, customisation options on WhatsApp Web are quite limited. Users can only change the default wallpaper and add doodle overlays. The upcoming chat themes feature is expected to expand these options with more detailed design controls.

Chat Level Themes

The update will also introduce chat-level customisation. Users will be able to assign different themes to individual conversations, helping them visually separate personal chats, work discussions and group conversations more clearly on the web version.

WhatsApp 49 Theme Variations

The platform is testing up to 49 theme options, including various shades and tonal versions of colours such as blue. These variations are designed to give users more flexibility when selecting a preferred look for their chats.

Private Theme Settings

The report notes that chat themes will remain private for each user. Any changes applied will only be visible on their own screen and will not impact how the same conversation appears for others in the chat.

WhatsApp Username Feature

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is also reportedly developing a username feature. This will let users connect using unique usernames instead of phone numbers, helping improve privacy while making communication simpler and more flexible on the platform.
