SpiceJet has named Sanjay Kumar as Executive Director (ED) effective from 3 November 2025. The airline said he will oversee strategic initiatives focused on business expansion, operational excellence, and transformation as part of its renewed growth plan.
As ED, Sanjay Kumar will work closely with Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh to drive key initiatives. His direct reporting line is designed to ensure stronger leadership alignment and faster execution of SpiceJet’s strategic and operational revival plans.
With more than three decades in aviation, Sanjay Kumar has deep expertise in network planning, revenue management, marketing, and commercial strategy.
Sanjay Kumar spent nearly 12 years as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at IndiGo and over three years as its Chief Strategy and Revenue Officer. He also held senior leadership roles at AirAsia India and InterGlobe Technology Quotient, showcasing extensive industry expertise.
Rejoining the airline at a crucial phase, Kumar said he looks forward to driving SpiceJet’s expansion, boosting operational efficiency, and creating greater value for customers and stakeholders as India’s aviation industry enters a period of strong growth.
Welcoming the appointment, Chairman and MD Ajay Singh said Kumar’s strong industry knowledge and leadership experience will be vital in driving SpiceJet’s growth strategy, strengthening its market position, and reinforcing the airline’s commitment to a customer-centric approach.
For the quarter ended 30 June 2025, SpiceJet posted a net loss of ₹234 crore, reversing last year’s ₹158.18 crore profit. The airline’s core revenue dropped nearly 36% to ₹1,059.88 crore from ₹1,646.21 crore year-on-year.
Despite recent losses, the budget carrier plans to expand its operations by flying 250 daily flights during the Winter Schedule 2025, up from 125 in summer and 150 last winter, signalling renewed efforts to strengthen its market presence.
