Swedish home furnishings company IKEA, known for its furniture offerings worldwide, is opening its first offline store in Delhi NCR, on August 13. The brand plans to bring its unique home decor offerings to the capital. Along with it, it is also bringing its dining experience to the city store.
This announcement comes after IKEA launched its online presence in the Delhi market earlier this year. The Swedish brand, which has sourced products from India for more than 50 years, started its retail journey in India with a store in Hyderabad in 2018 and has since expanded with stores in Navi Mumbai and Bengaluru.
Following its growing presence in India, IKEA has selected Pacific Mall in Tagore Garden for its first offline store in Delhi. Situated in a bustling shopping district of West Delhi, the store offers convenient access to shoppers across the city.
Ankit Ghai, IKEA Country Selling Manager and Chief Business Officer, announced on LinkedIn that the first IKEA store in Delhi will open at Pacific Mall, Tagore Garden. He added that the company has been working hard to create a welcoming space where visitors can explore, dream and find ideas to make their homes their favourite place to be.
The new IKEA store will showcase popular products like the iconic BILLY bookcase and stylish kitchen organisers, giving shoppers fresh ideas to personalise their homes. Visitors can also enjoy IKEA’s famous Swedish meatballs, hot dogs, and other favourites at the in-store restaurant, bringing a taste of Sweden to Delhi.
The company also created buzz on Instagram with an “it’s happening” video featuring famous landmarks from Delhi like India Gate and the Faqir Chand bookstore.
Excited Delhi residents called the IKEA store opening 'superb' and 'long-awaited' on social media, eager to visit from day one. Some also asked if shopping would be allowed on August 13 or if it would be just a preview event.
