Elon Musk’s platform X (formely twitter) has intensified its crackdown on spam, removing 1.7 million bots that were cluttering replies with irrelevant or repetitive content to improve user experience.
Nikita Bier, X’s Head of Product, announced in a post that following the bot removal, the platform’s next focus will be cutting down spam in direct messages.
X hasn’t revealed how it detected or removed the 1.7 million bots, but the platform mainly depends on automated systems and behavioural analysis to spot and flag suspicious accounts.
X has carried out one of its biggest spam removals since Elon Musk took charge, according to Mint, addressing growing concerns about the surge of fake accounts and unwanted content on the platform.
Meanwhile, Nikita Bier also revealed that X will start testing a new link-sharing system next week, designed to give all posts equal visibility on users Timelines and improve engagement across the platform.
Elon Musk had earlier hinted that X might modify the way external links are shown to retain user engagement. The upcoming test could introduce a redesigned layout or adjust algorithms for linked posts.
Nikita Bier also highlighted that X has seen a remarkable surge in Android downloads, marking a historic week for the platform. Bier emphasized that the app is being rebuilt from scratch, and the team is hiring top Android engineers in Palo Alto to join the development effort.
