Anthropic has appointed Irina Ghose as Managing Director (MD) for India, as the artificial intelligence (AI) startup moves to expand its presence in the country.
Ghose joins Anthropic after a 24-year career at Microsoft India, where she served as chief operating officer and later became managing director in June 2023.
During her tenure at Microsoft, Ghose led key education and cloud sales businesses, building deep experience across enterprise, public sector and digital transformation initiatives in India.
Ghose holds an MBA in business management from XLRI Jamshedpur and earned her undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi.
Ghose appointment follows founder and chief executive Dario Amodei’s announcement to open Anthropic’s first India office in Bengaluru on 7 October last year.
Anthropic currently lists three mid-level AI sales roles in India and says the country is its second-largest market, echoing similar claims previously made by OpenAI.
Founded in January 2021, Anthropic has raised $27.4 billion so far and is reportedly finalising a further $10 billion round at a valuation near $350 billion.
Positioned as a safety-first alternative, Anthropic’s Claude model trails ChatGPT and Gemini in users, while Amodei sees India’s talent and governance focus as central to AI’s future.
