Tech giant Google has rolled out 'Personal Intelligence' feature in its Gemini AI chatbot, designed to enhance user interaction with more personalised, proactive and capable responses. The feature is currently in beta version and is being launched in the US.
Gemini AI can connect with Google apps like Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube and Search. Users choose which apps to link, enabling the chatbot to deliver a tailored and smooth personalised experience.
Josh Woodward, VP of Google Labs, said in a blog post that Personal Intelligence merges advanced reasoning with data retrieval across emails, photos and videos, allowing Gemini AI to provide accurate answers and personalised recommendations for each user.
Gemini AI can suggest books, shows, clothing and travel ideas. By analysing past trips, preferences and activity patterns stored in Gmail and Photos, it provides personalised recommendations instead of generic suggestions.
In an example shared by the tech giant, Gemini helped plan a spring break by analysing past family trips and preferences, suggesting an overnight train, avoiding tourist crowds and recommending personalised board games to simplify and enhance planning.
The company said connecting apps with Personal Intelligence is optional and off by default. Users can enable or disable it anytime, giving full control over data access while keeping sensitive information secure within Google.
Gemini AI references or explains the data it accesses from connected apps when giving recommendations, the company added. This transparency lets users verify the information, ensuring answers are accurate and traceable to Gmail, Photos or other linked apps.
The company shared another example in the blog post showing how Gemini helped identify tyre options for a minivan using past family trips in Photos, retrieved the licence plate from a photo and verified the van’s trim in Gmail, demonstrating personalised assistance.
