Asus ExpertBook P1 Review: The Business Laptop for Masses?

The ExpertBook series has long catered to the B2B segment. At the launch, though, the company announced an ace up its sleeve.

Not flashy. No bells and whistles. It's just a product that gets the job done. It will appeal to the masses. It’s a simple, no-frills business laptop. The product at hand is the new Asus ExpertBook P1. Thanks to a 13th-Gen Intel Core i7 processor and 32GB of DDR5 RAM (double the RAM you usually see in a laptop of this calibre), the ExpertBook P1 is here to slay.

Up until now, the only way to get your hands was if you had a business account. The ExpertBook series has long catered to the B2B segment. At the launch, though, the company announced an ace up its sleeve. Yes, the ASUS ExpertBook P1 is now exclusively available for anyone to purchase through Flipkart. With a starting price of Rs 39,990 for the Core i3, 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD, there’s something for everyone—the top-of-the-line Core i7 variant clocks in at Rs 74,990.

The ExpertBook P1 Means Business

Let’s get this out of the way. The ExpertBook P1 won’t be winning any design awards. It won’t stand out in the crowded laptop segment. It’ll be suave, minimalist, and quietly there, asking for your attention. The matte finish, with its clean and minimalist look, adds to its premium quality. It attracts minimal fingerprints and smudges. The laptop is made from polycarbonate plastic, which helps keep the weight down and has minimal flex. The hinge is excellent, and the display didn’t wobble at all.

Like all other recently launched Asus laptops, the ExpertBook P1 is also MIL-STD-810 h certified. It can handle the occasional knocks and even some weight on its lid. The build quality is its strongest quality vis-a-vis the competition in the business segment. It’s lightweight and portable, making it a laptop that won’t weigh you down on your frequent travels.

The logo on the lid is small and unobtrusive, and the entire laptop exudes a classy feel, even if it will likely go unnoticed by most.

With the ExpertBook P1, you get two USB-C ports, one USB-A port, an HDMI port, a full-size RJ45 ethernet port and a 3.5mm jack. I wouldn’t have minded an SD card slot, but that’s being a little too greedy.

What About that Display?

The display is average business fare here. Nothing more, nothing less. You get a 14-inch Full HD (1920x1080 resolution) IPL panel. As I mentioned earlier and will continue to repeat, it’s not fancy, but it gets the job done. It’s sufficient for browsing the web, creating Excel sheets, watching basic YouTube videos, and writing reports. The panel covers 45% of the NTSC colour gamets, and that’s a big downside. The viewing angles are good, and there is no glossy finish,

so there are minimal glares. The brightness is quite good, and for video calls, it will more than suffice, as the dual speakers get decently loud with good vocal clarity.

Lastly, let me share one thing I had hoped for. The trend these days is to have a 16:10 aspect ratio. Unfortunately, the ExpertBook P1 is limited to a 16:9 aspect ratio. With office use, the extra vertical space would have come in very handy.

Keyboard and Touchpad

If typing long documents is your mainstay, then you’ll be happy with the chiclet-style layout and the good key travel offered by the keyboard here. Additionally, the keys provide good feedback and are responsive. You don’t need to type hard to improve accuracy. It’s a good keyboard overall. Furthermore, the keyboard has backlighting.

The touchpad is large, responds precisely, and has multi-touch gestures. In the top-right corner, you’ll see a fingerprint scanner that has been embedded in the touchpad. It works just as advertised.

Performance

The variant I reviewed was equipped with an Intel Core i7-13620H processor. It features integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics. This was plenty of power for daily mundane tasks but no match if you wanted to play demanding games or do some video editing.

Apps launch instantly, and file transfer is snappy, but that’s about it. This laptop's target audience will have no issues with its performance. It’s only going to bog you down when you try to push it to its maximum. A rarity in this segment is 32GB of RAM, and I commend Asus for doubling the usual 16 GB of RAM. It’s much required and helps things like Google Chrome, PowerPoint, and other low-to-medium tasks run smoothly.

I’m also pleased that the laptop’s fans are mostly silent. Only when you push the laptop do the fans kick in, and then the sound does get annoying.

Battery Life

It’s 2025 and all the rage these days is about how manufacturers are touting insane battery life numbers with their new laptops. That’s not the case with the ExpertBook P1. Thanks to an old Intel processor, the laptop just about gets through a day’s work. But, for their target audience, they are mostly sitting at a desk and plugged in. The laptop provided an average of seven hours of screen-on-time before it gave up. Strictly average.

AI anyone?

Honestly, I didn’t care much for the AI features on the laptop as there is no dedicated NPU, leaving the bulk of the work to the CPU and GPU. Still, AI ExpertMeet was okay. I did like the 'Add a screen watermark to your screen when sharing' option. There’s also the Microsoft Copilot keyboard access. Another AI feature that proved genuinely helpful was the AI-powered noise-cancelling technology. It cleverly filtered out all the unnecessary background noise.

Verdict: Thanks for the 32GB RAM

At the price point of Rs 74,990, I should have gotten a lot more out of the laptop than I did. It does tick most of the boxes for business users, but it’s 2025, and even they want a lot more.

For 2025, the ExpertBook P1 is a no-frills, lean and mean business laptop. It’s polished, clean, snappy, and sturdy. Then again, it comes with a two-year-old Intel processor and falls short on battery life compared to many other laptops recently launched. The display just about gets the job done.

If you're considering the ExpertBook P1 for yourself or your office, do yourself a favour and opt for the higher-end variant. Get the one with the i7, and you’ll be pretty satisfied.
