Israel-Iran War: Will China and Russia Enter Conflict After US Strikes Ally

After days of crossfire between Iran and Israel, the United States directly struck three Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan, US President Donald Trump announced.

This action has sparked speculation about China and Russia’s possible involvement in supporting their ally, Iran. However, neither country’s response till now to the US strikes suggests they will engage in future involvement.

China’s Reaction

China criticised the US bombings through state media, stating that Washington risked repeating past strategic errors. CGTN, the international arm of China’s national broadcaster, called the action “a dangerous turning point.”

“History has repeatedly shown that military interventions in the Middle East often produce unintended consequences, including prolonged conflicts and regional destabilisation,” the commentary stated, referencing the 2003 Iraq War.

It added that a deliberate, diplomatic approach prioritising discussion over armed conflict offers the best hope for West Asian security.

Previously, China accused President Trump of “pouring oil” on the Israel–Iran crisis. Days later, President Xi Jinping urged all sides, “especially Israel,” to “cease hostilities,” according to official media.

Russia’s Position

Russia has not yet formally responded to the strikes. However, it had previously advised the US against “military intervention” in the Israel–Iran conflict.

On Thursday the president of Russia’s nuclear-energy organisation had warned that an Israeli attack on Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant could lead to a “Chernobyl-style catastrophe.”

US Strike on Iran

Describing the action as a “very successful attack,” Trump said on Truth Social, “We have completed our very successful attack on the three nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz and Esfahan. All planes are now outside Iran airspace. A full payload of bombs was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home. Congratulations to our great American warriors. There is not another military in the world that could have done this. Now is the time for peace! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

White House officials later confirmed that President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke following the strikes. In a subsequent address, Trump demanded “quick peace” from Tehran, led by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
