Amazon Web Services (AWS) is pinning its hope on India, as the country is projected to become the third major player in the global artificial intelligence (AI) race. To strengthen its bet on India, AWS is infusing funds worth $12.7 billion to build AI infrastructure. AWS is playing a crucial role in building cloud infrastructure across India’s tech hubs that could power the next generation of AI breakthroughs, the Business Standard.
“The Indian developer community is one of the most vibrant communities. Indian builders are incredibly passionate, curious, and excited to embrace new technologies,” vice president, AWS Agentic AI, Swami Sivasubramanian told BS. “AWS has been working with Indian companies and startups a lot, and we are seeing a huge opportunity in the India region,” Sivasubramanian added.
The $12.7 billion by AWS through 2030 is one of the largest investments made by any tech company in the country.

The development comes around a time when other global giants, including Microsoft and Nvidia are also betting big on building India’s AI infra.
Earlier in January this year, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced a $3 billion investment in India over the next two years to support the growing demand for cloud services and AI infrastructure. The tech giant aims to train over 10 million people in India on AI skills by 2030.
“I am really excited to announce the single largest expansion we have ever done in India by putting $3 billion additional dollars to expand our Azure capacity,” the Microsoft CEO had earlier said.
Nvidia is partnering with billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries to build AI infrastructure in the country. The two have also joined forces to develop AI supercomputers in India.
“This is an excellent opportunity for India to have a large population and a large population of computer engineers,” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said earlier.

Nvidia has another partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to design a collective of AI-native agents for the telecommunications industry, leveraging its long-standing collaboration with Nvidia.
