Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s platform X (formerly Twitter) has introduced XChat, a new privacy-focused messaging app, now available on iOS and web, with Android support expected soon.
Users can open XChat through the updated X app, which brings all messages, including older DMs, into one unified inbox for easier and more secure communication across devices.
XChat focuses on stronger privacy by offering end-to-end encryption, vanishing messages and improved control over conversations, helping users maintain secure and confidential communication across the platform.
XChat enables users to share any type of file with ease, ensuring secure transfers, while its audio and video calling features work across platforms without requiring a phone number or additional apps.
Some XChat features, such as larger storage limits, priority assistance and early access to experimental tools, are reserved for premium users, offering added convenience and enhanced functionality on the platform.
XChat is built on the Rust programming language, offering improved speed and security through Bitcoin-style encryption and a new architecture designed to safeguard user data and strengthen messaging privacy, Musk wrote on X.
Musk aims is to transform X into a multi-purpose platform, similar to China’s WeChat, integrating messaging, payments and other services, with XChat marking a major step toward this goal.
XChat is currently live for iOS and web users, while Android support will follow soon, allowing all X users to benefit from secure messaging and advanced privacy-focused features.
