From November 1, non-BS-VI commercial goods vehicles registered outside Delhi will not be allowed to enter the city, following the Commission for Air Quality Management’s (CAQM) directive to curb pollution.
BS-VI compliant vehicles follow tighter emission standards compared to older versions, helping reduce harmful exhaust and contributing towards cleaner air in Delhi and surrounding regions.
As a temporary relief, BS-IV compliant commercial goods vehicles will be permitted to enter Delhi until October 31, 2026, according to the transport department’s public notice.
Vehicles registered in Delhi, along with BS-VI diesel vehicles, BS-IV diesel vehicles permitted till October 2026, and those running on CNG, LNG, or electricity, will face no entry restrictions.
The notice also highlighted that restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) will remain active and continue to apply on commercial goods vehicles whenever specific pollution control stages are enforced.
In its October 17 meeting, the Commission for Air Quality Management approved a sweeping ban on polluting vehicles from November 1 to address Delhi’s worsening air quality.
Rajendra Kapoor of the All India Motor and Goods Transport Association said a meeting will be held next week to decide the next course of action, including possibly approaching the Supreme Court to seek relief from BS-IV vehicle entry restrictions after one year.
