The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has lifted GRAP Stage 3 restrictions in Delhi-NCR, refocusing the region on Stage 1 and Stage 2 measures as officials work to manage worsening winter pollution.
With Stage 3 withdrawn, Delhi-NCR has reopened entry for most inter-state buses except electric, CNG, and BS-VI vehicles, while offices drop the 50% attendance cap and schools end hybrid classes.
Stage 1 requires strict checks on polluting vehicles, improved traffic management, and tighter emission controls across industries, power plants and brick kilns to limit early-stage pollution rise.
Stage 1 also enforces a ban on open waste burning, restricts diesel generator usage, and prohibits the use of coal or firewood at eateries within the capital.
Public transport continues to operate normally under Stage 1, with authorities encouraging residents to rely more on shared mobility instead of using individual cars to curb emissions.
Stage 2 includes mechanised road sweeping, regular water sprinkling, and the use of anti-smog guns in major locations to help bring down dust levels and fine particulate pollution.
Stage 2 prohibits the use of coal and firewood, restricts diesel generators to only essential services, and prevents construction sites or industrial units under closure orders from restarting operations.
Delhi’s air quality stayed in the very poor range for the fourteenth consecutive day on Thursday, with the city recording an AQI of 349 at 7 am and forecasts indicating no improvement ahead.
