Rameshwar Prasad Gupta, a retired IAS officer, took over as Chairman and Managing Director of Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) on June 15, 2023. He had a notable career in the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change.
Before SECI, Gupta was Secretary at the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change. His diverse experience played a key role in his leadership at SECI.
Gupta holds an aerospace engineering degree from IIT Kanpur and has contributed to the Ministry of Coal and NITI Aayog, bringing valuable expertise to his leadership roles.
On May 10, 2025, the Union Government suddenly removed Gupta from his post before his term ended. The dismissal took effect immediately, with no prior notice.
The United States Securities and Exchange Commission is probing Adani and Reliance Power for possible misrepresentation in clean energy deals. SECI was named but denied any wrongdoing.
Gupta responded by stating there was no wrongdoing by SECI. He clarified that no irregularities were mentioned in relation to SECI in the ongoing Adani case.
The government’s official notification did not provide any clear reasons for Gupta’s removal, leaving questions unanswered.
