Outlook Business Desk

Fee Revision Begins

In a major update this month, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) revised Aadhaar update fees for demographic and biometric changes, effective October 1, 2025. Along with this, the government released a new document verification list for Aadhaar-related updates and corrections.

Fee Revision Begins

A major Aadhaar reform is set to begin on November 1, 2025. Cardholders will be able to update details like name, address, date of birth, gender, and mobile number online. The new UIDAI system aims to make Aadhaar corrections faster, secure, and paperless.

Aadhaar Fee Hike

Meanwhile, Effective from October 1, 2025, (UIDAI) has revised Aadhaar update charges. Demographic changes such as name or address will now cost ₹75, while biometric updates including fingerprints, iris, or photos will cost ₹125, making updates slightly costlier.

New Rates Fixed

The revised Aadhaar update fees will remain valid until 2028. UIDAI said the hike was necessary to maintain service quality and cover technology upgrade costs. For citizens, this means even small corrections to Aadhaar details will now cost slightly more than before.

Free Child Updates

UIDAI has also announced relief for children aged 7 to 15, allowing biometric updates such as fingerprint and iris scans to be done free of cost. Since facial and fingerprint features change with age, schools have been asked to help ensure every child’s Aadhaar stays active.

New Document List

UIDAI released an updated document verification list in July 2025. It now applies to citizens, Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs). The authority has warned that duplicate Aadhaar numbers will lead to strict action if detected.

Free Period Ends

The option to update Aadhaar details online for free ended on June 14, 2025. From now, all Aadhaar corrections will attract a fixed fee. Those who missed the free window will have to pay for updates made through UIDAI’s online or offline platforms.

Fee May Return

Experts suggest UIDAI could reopen the free update feature for a limited period in the future. Citizens are advised to monitor official announcements closely to avoid missing such opportunities, ensuring timely updates of their Aadhaar information when new windows open.

Impact on Users

These changes will impact key services linked to Aadhaar, such as banking, pensions, and tax refunds. Outdated details may delay e-KYC verification, keeping Aadhaar information updated is vital to ensure smooth access to financial and government services.
