US President Donald Trump said that military strikes against Iran will be stopped as discussions move forward on a possible agreement aimed at reducing tensions and ending the ongoing conflict situation between the two sides.
Trump stated that a broad agreement framework has already been accepted by all involved parties, including Iran’s leadership, and suggested that a formal signing of the deal could take place soon if talks continue positively.
However, Iran has denied these statements. A source cited by Iran’s Fars news agency said Tehran has not approved any draft agreement with the United States, and no final consent has been given for any deal structure.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Trump informed him that any final agreement must include Iran giving up enriched nuclear material and accepting strict limits on both nuclear and missile development programmes.
Trump said the proposed deal includes lifting a US naval blockade once it is signed. He also stated that certain military operations, including actions related to Kharg Island, are no longer being considered.
According to Trump, discussions include reopening the Strait of Hormuz as part of a ceasefire-linked arrangement. He suggested this could happen within days depending on how negotiations progress.
According to reports, Trump avoided giving a fixed deadline but said he believes Iran is acting rationally and confidently. He added that negotiations are at an advanced stage and moving closer to a potential agreement.
Meanwhile, sources cited by Axios said talks are focused on three main issues: release of frozen Iranian assets, reopening of the Strait of Hormuz during a ceasefire period, and the future structure of nuclear negotiations.
Reports say Iranian and Qatari officials noted progress but raised concerns over US strikes affecting trust. Meanwhile, oil prices fell after Trump’s remarks signalled reduced military escalation and ongoing diplomatic movement.
