The Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) has elected its new leadership on Thursday. Sundeep Sikka has been appointed Chairman, and Vishal Kapoor takes over as Vice Chairman. Both will assume charge with immediate effect following AMFI’s 30th Annual General Meeting and board approval.

Who is Sundeep Sikka?

Sundeep Sikka, Executive Director and CEO of Nippon Life India Asset Management, will lead the AMFI as Chairman. He has been a board member of AMFI since 2009 and previously served as AMFI Chairman from 2013 to 2015, bringing extensive industry experience.

Who is Vishal Kapoor?

Vishal Kapoor, CEO of Bandhan Asset Management Company, has been named AMFI’s Vice Chairman. A board member since 2018, Kapoor has led the ARN Committee since 2020 and will focus on advancing investor engagement and financial inclusion.

Under the leadership of Sikka and Kapoor, who together embody the vision of AMFI 2.0, the focus is on strengthening trust in the mutual fund industry, engaging closely with regulators, safeguarding investors, promoting inclusive growth, and raising awareness nationwide.

Sundeep Sikka emphasised expanding mutual fund reach across India, enhancing transparency, and building trust. Collaborating with SEBI and policymakers, he aims to promote financial inclusion and make mutual funds a key instrument for long-term wealth creation.

Vishal Kapoor Focus

On the other hand, Vishal Kapoor highlighted simplifying mutual fund access, boosting investor awareness, and supporting first-time investors. Strengthening the distributor and advisor network will play a critical role in widening investor participation across geographies.

Industry at Milestone

The new AMFI leadership assumes charge at a pivotal moment as India’s mutual fund industry crosses ₹75 lakh crore in assets under management, serving more than 5.6 crore investors nationwide, marking a significant milestone for the sector.

Meanwhile, AMFI also expressed gratitude to outgoing Chairman Navneet Munot, MD and CEO of HDFC Asset Management Company, for his leadership, and to Anthony Heredia, MD and CEO of Mahindra Manulife Mutual Fund, for his service as Vice Chairman.
