Alleged Abuse Spanning Nearly a Decade
The alleged abuse started when she was three years old and the last incidence allegedly occurred when he was an adult but she was still a minor, according to the lawsuit filed on Monday U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Missouri.
Ann Altman Takes Legal Action
Previously, Ann Altman had accused Sam Altman of abuse on social media platforms like X, but this is the first time she’s taken him to court. She is being represented by Ryan Mahoney, whose Illinois-based form specializes in matter including sexual assault and harassment.
Sam Altman Denies Abuse Allegations
The entrepreneur claims the statement is from him, his mother, and his brother, who deny his sister Ann's allegations. He also asserted that the family has made significant efforts to support Ann, including paying bills, covering rent, helping with job opportunities, providing medical care, and offering to buy her a house.
Family Calls Claims Hurtful and False
“Annie has made deeply hurtful and entirely untrue claims about our family, and especially Sam. We've chosen not to respond publicly, out of respect for her privacy and our own. However, she has now taken legal action against Sam, and we feel we have no choice but to address this,” the statement reads. This situation causes immense pain to our entire family, it added.
Who is Sam Altman?
Sam Altman is a longtime Silicon Valley entrepreneur and investor. He gained global recognition with the success of artificial intelligence startup OpenAI. The release of ChatGPT in late 2022 sparked a worldwide AI frenzy. Backed by Microsoft, the company was recently valued at $157 billion, with investments from Thrive Capital, chipmaker Nvidia, SoftBank, and others.
Other Legal Challenges
This is not the only legal challenge that Sam Altman is facing. In March, Elon Musk sued OpenAI and its co-founders, including Altman, accusing them of breach of contract and fiduciary duty. Musk, who left OpenAI's board in 2018, is trying to prevent the organization from transitioning into a for-profit company.
