Alakh Pandey, founder of edtech unicorn PhysicsWallah, has surpassed Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan in wealth after his fortune surged by 223% to ₹14,510 crore. Shah Rukh Khan’s net worth also rose to ₹12,490 crore this year, placing Pandey prominently on the Hurun India Rich List 2025.
Meanwhile, Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan has entered the billionaire club for the first time, with his net worth surging 71% from 2024, marking a significant milestone in his financial and business accomplishments.
The actor’s production house, Red Chillies Entertainment, co-owned with his wife Gauri Khan, reported a net profit of ₹85 crore in FY23. His blockbuster Jawan grossed ₹640.25 crore in India and ₹1,160 crore globally, fuelling his soaring net worth.
PhysicsWallah achieved strong financial performance in FY25, cutting net losses to ₹243 crore from ₹1,131 crore and increasing revenue to ₹2,886 crore.
PhysicsWallah has also submitted revised draft papers to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for a ₹3,820 crore initial public offering, marking a major step towards entering the public market for the fast-growing edtech firm.
The IPO includes a fresh issue of ₹3,100 crore and an offer-for-sale worth ₹720 crore. Founders Alakh Pandey and Prateek Maheshwari will each sell shares worth ₹360 crore through the offer-for-sale component.
Alakh Pandey began teaching on YouTube in 2016 after leaving Harcourt Butler Technical University, marking the start of his inspiring journey as an online educator that would eventually transform India’s edtech landscape.
