Leena, recently purchased two sea-facing duplexes in Mumbai’s Worli area for Rs 639 crore—a record-breaking real estate deal with the total outlay nearing Rs 703 crore after adding Rs 63.9 crore in stamp duty and GST. The deal was sealed on Wednesday as reported by Economic Times.
The flats are located in Naman Xana, a 40-storey luxury tower on Worli Sea Face, a premium location in South Mumbai.
The two sea-facing duplexes, spanning the 32nd to 35th floors with a total area of 22,572 sq ft, were sold at over Rs 2.83 lakh per sq ft—marking the highest residential rate ever recorded in India.
Leena Gandhi Tewari is the chairperson of USV Private Limited, a pharmaceutical giant founded in 1961 by her grandfather Vithal Balkrishna Gandhi in partnership with Revlon. Presently, the company stands as a leading force in India’s pharma and biotech sectors.
As of May 29, Forbes listed her net worth at $3.9 billion. She ranked 964th globally and 45th among India’s richest women in 2023.
Leena was born on March 9, 1957, in suburban Mumbai. She graduated with Bachelor's of Commerce from University of Mumbai and later pursued an MBA from Boston University. Before completing her degree, she returned to India to lead the family business.
USV India began as a medicine importer and is now among India’s top five pharma firms specializing in diabetes and cardiac care. With $511 million revenue, it also produces biosimilars and injectables. The company is led by Prashant Tewari husband of Leena Tiwari.
Leena Tewari, is not just known for her business success but also for her generous giving. She focuses on helping underprivileged women, especially by supporting education. In 2019, she donated Rs 34 crore and was ranked third among women philanthropists in India.
