Passport services in India are set to become costlier from July 1, 2026, as the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has revised charges across multiple categories including fresh applications, renewals and special services, affecting both domestic and overseas applicants.
The revised structure increases charges for fresh passports and reissues, with higher costs for both normal and Tatkaal services. The change applies to 36-page and 60-page passport options, making applications significantly more expensive than earlier rates.
For adult applicants, a 36-page normal passport will now cost ₹2,500, while a 60-page option will cost ₹3,500. Tatkaal services will also become more expensive, with charges rising to ₹5,000 and ₹6,000 respectively.
Fast-track Tatkaal passport services have seen a sharp increase. The higher pricing applies to both standard page formats, raising the overall cost burden for applicants who opt for urgent processing or quicker passport delivery timelines.
Lost or damaged passport replacements will also become more expensive. Adults applying for reissue under normal service or Tatkaal will now pay significantly higher fees, with revised rates reaching up to ₹8,500 depending on category.
Passport services for children below 18 years have also been revised. Fresh and reissue applications for minors will now cost ₹1,750 under normal service and ₹4,250 under Tatkaal. Replacement of lost or damaged passports will cost ₹4,250 under normal service and ₹6,750 under Tatkaal.
Meanwhile, Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) and other passport-linked services will see a price hike as well. The PCC fee has increased from ₹500 to ₹750, impacting applicants requiring verification documents for travel or employment purposes.
Indian citizens applying from abroad will follow a separate fee structure. Fresh 36-page passport applications overseas will now cost $125 under normal service and $250 under Tatkaal processing categories.
Despite the hike, a 10% discount remains available for children below eight years and senior citizens above 60 for fresh applications. However, this benefit does not apply to reissue requests or renewal services.
