The Indian Railways is set to launch the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express by the end of September. Designed for overnight travel, this premium train will offer passengers a comfortable and upgraded experience between Delhi–Patna via Prayagraj rail route, CNBC reported.
The new Vande Bharat Sleeper Express is built for overnight journeys, unlike the standard chair-car trains used for daytime trips. Passengers can cover long distances while enjoying flight-like comfort at train fares, combining speed, convenience, and premium onboard experience.
The sleeper train will connect Patna and Delhi through Prayagraj, slashing journey times to around 11.5 hours. Passengers can reportedly board at 8 PM from Patna and reach Delhi by 7.30 AM, with the return trip following the same convenient overnight schedule.
Fares for the new sleeper service are projected to be 10–15% higher than the Rajdhani Express on the same route. While Officials reportedly said the faster journey, upgraded facilities, and enhanced comfort will increase travel cost, it will still provide a more affordable option than flying.
This overnight train will reach speeds of up to 180 km/h, cutting the Delhi–Patna journey far shorter than the 23-hour Rajdhani Express. It offers passengers a quicker and more convenient long-distance travel option.
The sleeper coaches are crafted using modern Integral Coach Factory (ICF) techniques manufactured by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML). Combining durability with safety, these coaches also feature contemporary amenities designed to make overnight travel convenient and enjoyable for passengers.
The sleeper train will feature 16 coaches, accommodating up to 1,128 passengers across three classes: AC First Class, AC 2 Tier, and AC 3 Tier.
Passengers can also enjoy a range of features including CCTV monitoring, LED information and entertainment screens, automatic sensor doors, fire safety systems, and onboard announcements.
Since its 2019 launch by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Vande Bharat Express has become a flagship of Indian Railways. With the new sleeper version and more upgraded models planned, the service is set to transform long-distance train travel across India.
