The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has revised the toll fee structure, set to impose higher charges on vehicles without an active FASTag from November 15, 2025.
Non-FASTag vehicle owners paying through Unified Payment Interface (UPI) will now be charged 1.25 times the regular toll fee, offering a lower-cost digital alternative to cash.
Motorists choosing to pay in cash without a FASTag will have to pay double the usual toll amount, making cash transactions the most expensive option at toll plazas.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways stated that, as part of a major move to encourage digital payments and reduce cash transactions at National Highway toll plazas for non-FASTag users, the Government of India has revised the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008.
As per the amended rules, vehicles without a valid FASTag must pay double the toll when paying in cash, whereas those using UPI will be charged only 1.25 times the standard fee for their vehicle type.
The statement also highlighted that the updated toll rules are intended to encourage digital payment use, boost transparency in toll operations, and improve the overall experience for National Highway users.
The new toll fee rules will take effect from November 15, 2025, and from that date, all vehicles passing through toll plazas will be subject to and benefit from the updated regulations.
