Flight operations at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will halt for six hours on Thursday for scheduled runway maintenance as part of its annual post-monsoon infrastructure check.
Both the primary runway 09/27 and secondary runway 14/32 will be shut from 11 am to 5 pm, preventing all departures and arrivals during the maintenance period.
The airport released a passenger advisory on Tuesday saying the planned shutdown is essential to uphold safety, operational reliability and global aviation standards, adding that the short closure will support smooth and secure travel for passengers.
The airport said it had issued a mandatory NOTAM (Notice to Airman) six months earlier to inform all stakeholders, giving airlines enough time to adjust their schedules and organise their operations in advance.
As part of the yearly upkeep, dedicated engineering teams will examine both the micro and macro layers of the runways, which naturally deteriorate over time due to constant aircraft operations.
CSMIA manages nearly 900 daily flight movements across its 1,033-acre airside, which includes runways, taxiways, and aprons, making consistent maintenance vital to ensure safe and efficient airport operations.
The temporary runway closure is a crucial measure to maintain safety, operational reliability and international compliance, ensuring secure travel experiences for all passengers at CSMIA airport.
