A fitness centre in northern China launched a bold challenge—lose 50 kilograms within three months and drive away in a Porsche Panamera worth around ₹1.7 crore.
The challenge went viral worldwide, sparking excitement and alarm as people debated whether this luxury reward justified the extreme weight-loss target set by the gym.
The competition began on October 23 at a gym in Binzhou, Shandong province, following an online poster promising the luxury car to anyone achieving the drastic goal.
Participants has to pay 10,000 yuan (about ₹1.23 lakh) as an entry fee covering meals, training, and shared accommodation in a fully enclosed fitness facility.
The gym restricted enrolment to 30 contestants, with around seven or eight already signing up to attempt the ambitious and potentially risky fitness challenge.
On the other hand, health experts warn that losing 50 kg in 90 days is extremely unsafe, as safe weight loss averages only about 0.5 kg per week.
Online reactions remain divided. Some praised the gym’s ambitious offer, while others dismissed it as a publicity gimmick aimed at attention. Many joked on Weibo about “disappearing before even winning the car.”
Meanwhile, the Porsche is not new but a used 2020 model owned by the gym’s founder, who claims the contest aims to promote fitness discipline, not just viral attention.
