The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was suspended for a week due to to escalating India-Pakistan border tensions. This pause disrupted the tournament’s schedule and affected various stakeholders.
Each cancelled IPL match could cost the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) approximately Rs 100–125 crore, according to Mint. With 5–7 matches missed during the suspension, potential losses range from Rs 300–420 crore.
The suspension hit BCCI’s main income sources—TV rights, ticket sales, sponsorships and merchandise. Even with insurance in place, the board is facing major financial losses.
BCCI has insurance to cover losses from events like the IPL, but the payout may not fully make up for the big losses during the suspension.
Before the suspension, BCCI spoke with teams, broadcasters and sponsors to understand the situation. The decision was taken together, keeping national security in mind.
The suspension caused matches to be rescheduled, including Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals. The new plan aims to finish the tournament, but player availability and travel still remain uncertain.
Teams are facing problems like travel issues and money pressure after the suspension. BCCI is working with them to solve these challenges and restart the tournament smoothly.
After a week-long suspension, the Indian Premier League 2025 is officially scheduled to resume on May 17.
