Sunjay Kapur, Chairman of Sona Comstar and a prominent leader in India’s automotive sector, passed away on Thursday at the age of 53 after suffering a heart attack in England while playing a polo match. He was a well-known face in India’s mobility sector.
Sunjay, served as President of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) and co-chaired the Manufacturing Council of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), playing a vital role in shaping India’s auto sector.
He earned a BBA degree from University of Buckingham and completed the Owner‑President Management Program at Harvard Business School, showing his strong academic foundation in business leadership.
Earlier, Sunjay Kapur married actor Karisma Kapoor in 2003. The couple had two children—Samaira and Kiaan. After years of legal proceedings, their much-publicised divorce was finalised in 2016, marking the end of their marriage.
Later in 2017, Sunjay Kapur married Priya Sachdev, a model and entrepreneur. The couple welcomed a son, beginning a new chapter together
Just hours before his death, Sunjay Kapur posted on X about the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad, writing, “Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour.”
Sunjay Kapur also shared a reflective post shortly before his death: “Your time on Earth is limited. Leave the ‘what ifs’ to the philosophers and instead dive headfirst into the ‘why nots’.” The quote has gone viral after his sudden death.
Friends, colleagues and celebrities like Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Malaika Arora were seen visiting Karisma Kapoor’s house to offer condolences after the tragic loss.
