New Passport Upgrade

The Consulate General of India in Dubai has launched the Global Passport Seva Programme (GPSP 2.0), effective from 28 October 2025. This enhanced system introduces chip-based e-passports and digital features to streamline passport services for Indian nationals living in the United Arab Emirates.

E-Passport Rollout

Under the (GPSP) 2.0, India will introduce e-passports embedded with secure chips storing digitised data of holders. These next-generation passports are designed to ensure faster, safer, and more efficient processing at immigration counters, enhancing convenience for Indian travellers.

Faster Travel Clearance

E-passports with embedded chips will let immigration officials instantly access traveller data, cutting waiting time and improving accuracy. The upgraded Passport Seva Programme (PSP) 2.0 promises smoother, faster travel while maintaining strong data protection for Indian passport holders.

Document Upload Option

Applicants can upload International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)-compliant photos, signatures, and documents directly on the (PSP) portal. The Consulate recommends using this feature to reduce waiting time at BLS International centres and speed up the application process.

Easy Error Correction

Under GPSP 2.0, authorised service providers can fix minor errors in passport applications without applicants retyping forms at BLS centres. No extra fee will be charged, making the process quicker and more convenient for Indian nationals in the UAE.

Step-by-Step Guide

To apply for an e-passport, applicants must register on the (PSP) portal, log in, fill out and submit the form, then print it. After submission, they can book an appointment and visit the nearest BLS International centre with documents.

Appointment & Submission

Once the online form is completed, applicants must book an appointment at the nearest BLS International centre. They should carry the printed application form and original documents for verification, ensuring smooth and efficient submission under the (GPSP) 2.0.

Indians in UAE

The UAE hosts the world’s largest Indian diaspora, with about 4.3 million residents making up 35% of its population. Most are employed professionals, while around 10% are dependents, mainly from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and northern states.
