Google, Microsoft, and Amazon are the most preferred employers for India’s Gen Z, reveals the Unstop Talent Report 2026, based on 37,000 student and 500 HR leader responses, highlighting shifting career priorities and expectations.
Global technology firms now lead career preferences among engineering and business students, surpassing consulting. While McKinsey, Bain and BCG remain attractive, Gen Z increasingly favours product-driven and tech-focused roles with faster growth opportunities.
Although McKinsey, Bain and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) remain appealing, Gen Z is increasingly drawn to roles in product development, technology innovation, and fast-paced companies offering learning and growth beyond traditional consulting paths.
In banking and financial services, global firms like Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase and Morgan Stanley lead Gen Z preferences, while HDFC Bank also ranks high. In FMCG, Hindustan Unilever, ITC,and Nestlé remain top employers.
Engineering students favour IT services like TCS, Infosys and Wipro, alongside new-age firms such as Swiggy, Meesho and Eternal. Gen Z prioritises learning, career growth, transparency and work-life balance over salary in choosing jobs.
Over 60% of students prioritise learning opportunities when selecting their first job. Many are willing to accept lower pay if roles offer faster career growth, meaningful work and better work-life balance.
Meanwhile, nearly 27% of Gen Z candidates drop out of hiring processes due to unclear salary structures. Only 36% of HR leaders feel fully prepared to manage Gen Z talent, highlighting a preparedness gap
Early attrition remains a concern, as many young employees leave jobs due to lack of growth opportunities, role mismatch and delays in receiving meaningful work. Long bench periods and better opportunities elsewhere increase exits, according to the report.
Nearly 95% of students are open to off-campus opportunities. Internships are key entry points, though full-time conversions remain limited. Companies offering learning, transparency and clear growth paths are more likely to retain talent.
