On Thursday, Swedish home furnishing company Ikea announced its entry into North India, launching online deliveries across Delhi-NCR. Customers can shop from over 7,000 products through the Ikea app and website. After six years of operating in Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, Ikea is now expanding into Delhi-NCR.
After Delhi, IKEA plans to launch its online stores in Agra, Prayagraj, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Ludhiana, and Varanasi.
IKEA plans to open full-size physical stores in Gurugram and Noida in the coming years. The Gurugram store is set to launch in 2026, followed by Noida in 2028. It is also planning to open physical stores in Pune and Chennai
The new IKEA stores in Gurugram and Noida will be smaller 200,000 to 250,000 sq ft compared to the larger ones in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Navi Mumbai. This change helps save costs and use space better while still offering home setups, food courts, and play areas.
IKEA is expanding into North India despite financial struggles. In 2023-24 (FY24), its losses grew to Rs 1,299.4 crore, while revenue rose by 4.5% to Rs 1,809.8 crore.
IKEA India’s CEO, Susanne Pulverer, said the company is excited to expand into North India. She explained that IKEA always invests first and then focuses on profits, and for India, its going to be no different.
