Instagram has rolled out a new feature that lets users change the order of photos and videos in a carousel even after it is live, so they no longer need to delete and upload the post again to correct the sequence.
Instagram announced on its creator page that users can now reorder photos and videos in carousel posts after publishing, using a straightforward long-press and drag method available in the post’s edit settings.
Previously, once a carousel post was published, its order could not be changed, so if a photo or video appeared out of place, users had to delete the entire post, losing likes, comments and overall engagement while starting from scratch.
This problem is now fixed. Users can open a carousel post, tap the three-dot menu, select edit, then long-press and drag any photo or video to rearrange its order effortlessly.
Instagram said the feature aims to give users greater control over how their content appears, allowing them to adjust the sequence anytime to better match storytelling or visual layout preferences.
Instagram confirmed that changing the order of carousel items will not affect likes or comments, allowing users to adjust their posts freely without losing any engagement or traction their content has already gained.
While users can rearrange or remove existing photos and videos, Instagram does not allow adding new media to a carousel after it has been published, keeping this as a key limitation.
The feature is being released gradually, so not all users may see it immediately. Early feedback is mostly positive, with many praising the update, while some request additional editing options for posts after publishing.
