Roshni Nadar Malhotra, chairperson of HCL Technologies is now India's 3rd-richest individual after inheriting 47% of her father Shiv Nadar's stake in HCL Corporation & Vama Sundari Investments. Roshni has taken charge of strategic decision-making at HCL.
Shiv Nadar, founder of HCL held a 51% stake in both HCL Corporation & Vama Delhi. The transfer of stakes was finalised through a private family arrangement. An exchange filing stated, "Gift Deeds have been executed as part of a private family arrangement to streamline succession, ensuring continued ownership and control by Mr Shiv Nadar's family while providing the company with the desired stability."
Under Roshni's leadership the company is set to further expand its global presence. She now has become the majority shareholder of HCL Corp & Vama Delhi. This transition also gives her voting rights over HCL Corp's 49.94% stake in HCL Infosystems & Vama Delhi's 12.94% stake in the company.
As of March 9, 2025, HCL Technologies Limited has a market capitalisation of approximately Rs 4,22,000 crore. Vama Sundari Investment owns a 44.71% stake in HCLTech, valued at approximately Rs 186,782 crore.
Roshni's net worth has surged, making her the 3rd richest person in India. As per the Bloomberg Billionaires – India list, Mukesh Ambani tops the chart with $88.1 billion, followed by Gautam Adani at $68.9 billion. Before the transfer, Shiv Nadar held the third position with a net worth of $35.9 billion.
Roshni was born in 1982 to Shiv Nadar & Kiran Nadar. Shiv Nadar is widely known as "Magnus". He is a Padma Bhushan awardee recognised for his transformative impact on the IT sector. Her mother Kiran Nadar is a prominent art collector, philanthropist & the founder of the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art.
Roshni Nadar studied at Vasant Valley School before pursuing higher education in the US. She earned a degree in communications from Northwestern University. She later obtained an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management.
Roshni Nadar holds global affiliations, including serving on the Dean’s Advisory Council at the MIT School of Engineering, the Executive Board for Asia at the Kellogg School of Management, and the board of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF). Additionally, she is a global board director at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and an independent director at HDFC Asset Management Company.
