Reliance Industries’ Jio Platforms has launched JioPC, a cloud-powered virtual desktop that transforms any TV into a functional computer using the Jio set-top box, bringing affordable computing to millions of Indian households.
JioPC is now available through a free trial and can be accessed by invitation only. The move highlights Reliance Industries’ Chairman, Mukesh Ambani’s broader goal of narrowing India’s digital gap, where PC and laptop ownership is still relatively low.
JioPC currently doesn’t support peripherals like webcams or printers, but provides essential computing features via the cloud, offering users a seamless experience for work, learning and browsing.
With JioPC, users get a full virtual desktop on their TV by connecting a keyboard and mouse to the Jio set-top box, which is available separately for ₹5,499 or bundled with select Jio broadband plans—either free or at a discounted price, depending on the plan.
Using JioPC is simple—just turn on your TV connected to the Jio Set-Top Box, head to the apps section, and tap the JioPC icon to get started.
Attach a Universal Serial Bus (USB) or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to the Jio Set-Top Box. This lets you control and use JioPC just like a regular desktop computer.
Your personal details are auto-filled—just press “Continue.” Then hit “Launch Now” to access your cloud desktop for work, learning, or entertainment.
Instead of Microsoft Office apps, users can access them through a web browser. JioPC also comes preloaded with LibreOffice, a free offline productivity suite for creating documents, spreadsheets and more.
