PhonePe, India’s leading digital payments platform, has joined hands with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT across its ecosystem, offering AI-driven support to millions through the PhonePe app, PhonePe for Business, and the Indus Appstore.
This collaboration aims to expand generative AI accessibility in India. Users will be able to leverage ChatGPT’s capabilities for everyday tasks, offering relevant insights and making their experience on PhonePe smarter and more convenient.
ChatGPT will assist users in performing tasks such as travel planning, shopping, and information discovery directly within the PhonePe ecosystem. The feature enhances usability and ensures users receive accurate, AI-powered support when needed.
This collaboration represents one of India’s earliest large-scale implementations of ChatGPT on a consumer platform, paving the way for faster AI adoption and creating opportunities for innovative use cases across the expanding digital user base.
Rahul Chari, Founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of PhonePe, emphasised that this partnership showcases how innovation can broaden access to advanced technology. He added that integrating OpenAI marks the start of PhonePe’s AI-driven consumer services journey.
Meanwhile, Oliver Jay, Head of International at OpenAI, said India’s position as an innovation hub and PhonePe’s deep understanding of local users make this collaboration ideal, demonstrating the value of consumer AI to millions nationwide.
Walmart-owned PhonePe recently submitted draft IPO papers, aiming to raise ₹11,000–₹12,000 crore primarily through an offer for sale. The filing reflects preparation but does not ensure the IPO will happen immediately.
PhonePe’s IPO will include a combination of an offer for sale and a small fresh issue. JP Morgan, Citi India, Morgan Stanley, and Kotak Mahindra Capital have been appointed as merchant bankers to oversee the listing.
