Infosys fired 240 freshers who couldn’t pass internal training tests, even after multiple tries. The decision impacted entry-level roles like System Engineers and Digital Specialist Engineers.
The assessments are a standard part of Infosys’ training process. Freshers must clear them to continue employment, a practice followed by the company for over two decades.
The company gives trainees 3 chances to pass the tests. Infosys also clarified that this policy was earlier included in the employment contract which has been consistently followed over the years.
An email from HR told trainees to explore opportunities outside Infosys. It sparked concern and signaled the end of their employment following unsuccessful assessment attempts.
Infosys offered one month’s pay to all the affected trainees. The financial support was part of the formal separation process initiated after the test failures.
Trainees were offered accommodation at the Mysore campus and travel allowance to Bengaluru or their hometown, easing the transition after being let go from the company.
Infosys provided access to free upskilling via NIIT and UpGrad. Courses included 12-week and 24-week programs aimed at roles in BPM and basic IT functions.
The company also extended professional outplacement services to help the trainees find new job opportunities in the tech industry after the termination process was initiated.
The IT employee union NITES has accused Infosys of forcing trainees to leave without proper notice. It claims that many were suddenly terminated and made to sign mutual separation letters under pressure.
