Mandatory Office Attendance

Infosys, India's second-largest IT services firm, has mandated that employees must work from the office for at least 10 days each month, effective March 10, 2025, according to a report by the Economic Times (ET).

What Does Email Read?

Infosys informed employees via email, stating that system interventions will ensure compliance while allowing some flexibility. According to the email, employees must work from the office for at least 10 days per month or adhere to specific business requirements if their role demands more frequent office presence.

Attendance Tracking System

Infosys will roll out an attendance tracking system which will monitor attendance and restrict the number of WFH days employees can apply for. Now, WFH requests will no longer be auto approved, and employees must check in at the office at least 10 days per month.

Job Level Policy

The policy applies to employees at Job Level 5 (JL5) and below (team leaders, software engineers, consultants) and also affects JL6 and above (managers, senior managers), but excludes vice presidents and higher ranks.

Flexibility Or Exhaustion

A senior executive mentioned that the policy is designed to improve team collaboration while still offering flexibility. However, some employees worry that the policy may lead to exhaustion and reduced efficiency due to commuting time.

Leave Deduction

According to the policy, if an employee fails to meet the mandatory office attendance requirement, the number of days they fall short will be deducted from their available leave balance.

Industry Trend

Infosys is not the only IT firm implementing stricter return-to-office regulations TCS has already mandated five-day office work policy and linked it to variable pay.

Return-to-Office Policy

Infosys introduced its return-to-office policy on November 20, 2023. Earlier, certain weeks each quarter were set as “in-person collaboration” weeks, requiring all team members to work from the office.
