Tesla chief Elon Musk said the company has been steadily advancing its AI chip and board engineering for years, helping position Tesla at the forefront of real-world AI across its cars and data centres.
Musk said Tesla established a dedicated AI chip and board engineering team years and their work has already delivered millions of chips now operating inside the company’s vehicles and data centres.
Tesla is also planning to roll out a new AI chip design into large-scale production each year, a speed Musk says will surpass the total manufacturing capacity of all other AI chip makers worldwide.
According to Musk, these chips will strengthen road safety by advancing autonomous driving capabilities and will also enable improved medical support through Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus, ultimately helping millions of people.
Musk urged top-tier AI chip engineers to apply to Tesla, requesting applicants to share three bullet points demonstrating their standout skills, especially in applying advanced AI methods to chip design.
Musk highlighted his direct role in Tesla’s AI chip development, saying he meets the engineering team every Tuesday and Saturday to guide ongoing projects and shape upcoming chip architecture.
Musk added that Saturday meetings will soon end as AI5 reaches its tape-out stage in a few months, marking a major milestone in Tesla’s rapid chip development push.
