Sam Altman has joined Microsoft on Monday, just days after being removed as the CEO of OpenAI. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella expressed confidence in his partnership with OpenAI and announced Altman's role in leading a new advanced AI research team.
On November 17th, the board of directors, serving as the governing body for all OpenAI activities, removed Altman from his position. The decision was based on concerns that Altman had not consistently provided transparent and candid communication with the board.
In its official statement, the board of directors had emphasised that OpenAI was purposefully designed to advance its mission of ensuring that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity. The decision to part ways with Altman was driven by the board's belief that new leadership is essential for the continued progress and success of OpenAI in fulfilling its mission.

Despite Altman's departure from OpenAI, Microsoft remains committed to its collaboration and supporting customers and partners. It's noteworthy that Microsoft has invested over 13 billion in OpenAI, integrating its technology into offerings like Bing.
OpenAI has appointed Emmett Shear as its new CEO, a decision that goes against investor calls to reinstate Altman after his dismissal on Saturday.
Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella has officially confirmed that Altman and Greg Brockman, along with their colleagues, will be joining Microsoft.
Nadela wrote on social media platform x, "We remain committed to our partnership with OpenAI and have confidence in our product roadmap, our ability to continue to innovate with everything we announced at Microsoft Ignite, and in continuing to support our customers and partners. We look forward to getting to know Emmett Shear and OAI's new leadership team and working with them. We look forward to moving quickly to provide them with the resources needed for their success."
