Retailers took the biggest knock during the downturn that began late in 2008. The K Raheja Group’s retail chain, Shoppers Stop, did not escape its effects, reporting a Rs 65 crore loss in 2008-09. The company has now bounced back, recording a profit of Rs 1,921 lakh in the third quarter of 2009-10. Recently, BS Nagesh, the company’s Vice-Chairman, and Govind Shrikhande, President and CEO, looked back at the hard times and told Ajita Shashidhar how they weathered the storm.
