Do you have a lot of goods eating away space at home? Pratyush Jalan, founder of BoxMySpace, has come up with a storage solution, keeping in mind the space-crunch issues in metros. “While I was working in the US, I found the idea of self-storage fascinating. However, nothing similar existed in India then,” says Jalan, who has launched on-demand storage service, BoxMySpace, in January.

“I came back to India and crashed at a friend’s place for a while. It was then that the real problem of more luggage and less space hit me hard. I required a platform where I could store my luggage and take them along when I moved to my own place,” he adds. With an initial investment of ₹10 lakh, BoxMySpace has been able to bag a funding of ₹1.92 crore from a consortium of investors.

It provides door-to-door services for household goods and bookings can be made through a website or mobile app, for a monthly fee based on the space utilised. BoxMySpace provides a detailed index of all the items stored, which allows for a consumer to fetch any particular item at a given point of time.

While a box of 2’ × 1.5’ × 1’ cubic feet is costs ₹69 per month, a space of 4’ × 4’ × 4’ cubic feet is available for ₹599 a month. The company also provides the convenience of short-term and long-term storage. The start-up is tying up with various redevelopment building projects to offer storage services as a perk to households. The company provides an insurance for up to ₹50,000 per box and ₹2 lakh for the space occupied. The start-up has served over 200 customers in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Pune and plans to operate in Delhi-NCR by October 2015.
